Two Girls at Angkor
This image was taken at Angkor, in Siem Reap, Cambodia — an ancient complex spanning over 400 square kilometres, with hundreds of temples built between the 9th and 15th centuries at the height of the Khmer Empire. We stayed for over a week so we could reach as many of the far-flung temples as possible, from dawn to dusk, never quite able to get enough of the ruins and the great trees growing up through the stone. Each day a local man picked us up in his tuk-tuk, his daughter alongside, and carried us from temple to temple. These two girls were at one of them. As we were leaving, they asked us to take their portrait — and when we showed them the back of the camera, they were elated. This is one of the great joys of travelling: the small moments where language is a barrier and yet humanity crosses it anyway. The connection you find in a simple, shared act is one of the reasons we love it so much. This image, "Two Girls at Angkor", was captured at Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia. Made by us in our gallery. Each print is hand-finished on archival materials chosen to last.
