How we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
Introduction
River Dart Gallery (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use our services.
The data controller is River Dart Gallery, operated by Kirsty & Jason Browning, at Darton Grove, Stoke Gabriel, Totnes, Devon TQ9 6RX, United Kingdom. For any privacy-related query — including to exercise your rights below — email privacy@riverdartgallery.co.uk.
Information We Collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways:
Personal Data: When you make a purchase, sign up for our newsletter, or contact us, we may collect your name, email address, postal address, and phone number.
Derivative Data: Information our servers automatically collect when you access the site, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times, and pages viewed.
Payment Data: We do not see or store your full card details. Card payments are processed by our PCI-DSS-compliant providers (Stripe online, SumUp in store); we retain only a record of the transaction (amount, date, and the last four digits / card type) needed for orders and accounting.
Use of Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Process and fulfil your orders for artwork, prints, framing services, and photography services
• Send you order confirmations and shipping updates
• Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
• Send marketing communications (with your consent)
• Improve our website and services
• Comply with legal obligations
Disclosure of Your Information
We may share your information with third parties in certain situations:
Service Providers: We may share your information with third parties that perform services for us, such as payment processing, shipping, and email delivery.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information where required to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, or legal process.
Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our website and store certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier.
You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our website.
Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the following rights over your personal data:
• To be informed — how we use your data (this policy)
• Of access — a copy of the data we hold about you
• To rectification — correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
• To erasure — deletion of your data where we have no overriding legal basis to keep it
• To restrict processing — pause our use of your data
• To data portability — your data in a portable format
• To object — to processing, including marketing
• Regarding automated decision-making — we do not make solely automated decisions about you
You may also withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@riverdartgallery.co.uk; we respond within one month. Some order and financial records must be retained to meet our legal obligations (see Data Retention), so erasure may be fulfilled by anonymising your personal details while keeping the minimum legally-required transaction record.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected:
• Order & transaction records: 6 years after the end of the relevant tax year, to meet HMRC and UK accounting obligations.
• Newsletter / marketing: until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent.
• Enquiries & correspondence: up to 2 years after the matter is closed.
• Website analytics: only with your consent, and for no longer than the cookie lifetimes disclosed in our cookie banner.
Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
