A Child of the Border
We rode our motorbike up to a Karen refugee camp in the hills of northern Thailand. While we were there, this little girl took Kirsty's hand and followed us everywhere we went. Tens of thousands of Karen refugees live in nine camps along the Thai–Myanmar border, having fled decades of civil war and human rights abuses in Myanmar. Thailand classifies them not as refugees but as "displaced persons" — restricting their freedom to move, to work, and to build a permanent home. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking — the warmth of a small hand in ours, and the weight of all she had been born into. This image, "A Child of the Border", was captured in Mae Hong Son, Thailand. Made by us in our gallery. Each print is hand-finished on archival materials chosen to last.
